Reiki Questions
My answers are based on insights from over 10 years of training and daily practice
in the Traditional Japanese Usui Reiki System.
What is Reiki and how can it help me?
Reiki is a Japanese term for the interconnected life energy of the universe.
Usui Reiki is a traditional Japanese spiritual care system of gentle practices that nourish, energize and harmonize ourselves in community. Mikao Usui founded the system in the 1920's inspired by decades of dedicated spiritual practice.
Reiki therapeutic sessions are scheduled periods of deep restorative rest for you while your certified and experienced Reiki Practitioner holds a compassionate space and focuses life energy. In this self healing space you can safely release stress, remember healthy essence, reconnect to source and find renewed vitality.
Reiki hands-on technique is a low touch modality that gently activates your own inner healing response without manipulating your energy.
Reiki care supports your return to well-being in your own time and therefore compliments other health treatments you may be having.
A Certified Reiki Practitioner has been technically trained by a qualified Reiki Teacher who belongs to a lineage of qualified Reiki Teachers. There are Practitioner Levels I-III and Teacher Training Level IV.
A Certified and dedicated traditional Japanese Usui Reiki Practitioner has a daily spiritual self care practice with the practices and techniques of the Usui Reiki System. This daily practice over time builds a increasingly open, serene, balanced, focused, compassionate and energized presence. This cultivated presence provides a safe space and healthy resonance that enhances therapeutic sessions.

The safe, energized space that the Reiki Practitioner provides during sessions offers healthy resonance and encourages deep restorative rest which activates the biological self healing response. Clinical studies show that Reiki supports the nervous and immune systems, pain management, improved sleep, living through trauma and grief and recovering from illness and injury.
A Reiki Practitioner is not qualified to counsel, diagnose or cure mental or physical health conditions or prescribe medication.

What happens in a Reiki session?
What do I wear for Reiki session?
What does my Reiki Practitioner do during my session?
Does Reiki involve massage?
Reiki therapeutic sessions take place in a quiet room with you lying fully clothed in comfortable bedding on a treatment table.
Your Reiki Practitioner will hold a compassionate and energized space for you to rest deeply. It is common to fall gently into sleep during a session. While you are resting your Reiki Practitioner will slowly make her way around the treatment table holding her hands and focusing energy near main body parts for several minutes each.
Your Reiki Practitioner will ask for your consent before the session to make brief contact during the session with your body in these two places : gently hold your blanket covered feet for a few minutes and also gently touch your shoulders to signal when the session is finished.
There is no body massage in Reiki therapeutic sessions.

How many sessions of Reiki do I need?
Your growing self compassion and comfort with Reiki therapeutic sessions will allow you each time to rest better, release more stress and reconnect more deeply to healthy essence. The process of rebalancing takes time and is different for everyone. Once you begin to experience the cumulative benefits during and after Reiki therapeutic sessions your inner wisdom will guide you to return when needed.
Reiki care is gentle, supports well-being and has no side effects, so however many regular or periodic sessions that you choose to make time for and invest in will be of benefit to your whole person.
